Smarter Trades Editorial Standards for Guides and Calculators
Learn how Smarter Trades sources, verifies, and updates betting exchange guidance and calculator content.
Editorial policy
This policy explains how Smarter Trades sources information, reviews calculations and updates content so readers can trust the numbers behind the tools and guides.
Content sourcing
We focus on primary sources wherever possible. That includes official Betfair documentation, exchange rule updates and published commission structures. For general betting concepts (probability, expected value, variance), we use standard mathematical definitions and verify formulae with independent references.
- Primary sources: Betfair help centre articles and official exchange rulebooks.
- Secondary sources: academic or industry references for probability and risk management concepts.
- Internal validation: calculator outputs are cross-checked with manual examples before publishing.
Updates and review cadence
Calculator pages and guides are reviewed at least quarterly. We also review content when Betfair announces a commission change, rule update or market mechanism change that could affect calculations. Pages show updated guidance within two weeks of a material change being identified.
Fact-checking standards
Each guide and tool is checked against the underlying maths and real-world examples. We verify that the formulas match the results produced by the calculators and that any worked examples reconcile with those outputs.
- All formulae are tested with sample stakes, odds and commission rates.
- Content claims are validated against official documentation or industry-standard definitions.
- Changes are peer-reviewed by the editor before publication.
Corrections and feedback
If you spot an error or believe a calculator needs updating, please email smartertradesshop@gmail.com. Corrections are prioritised and applied as quickly as possible, with a summary of the change captured in our internal update log.
